The North Sydney Bears are deeply saddened by the loss of two great Bears, with the passing of life member Frank Burge and the legendary Mark Harris on Wednesday.
Frank was heavily involved with the Bears firstly as a player in the Presidents Cup team in the 1950’s, before injury cut short his career. He eventually became team manager of the Jersey Flegg team in 1987, before elevating to 1st grade manager in the 90’s. His love and support of the club was endless and he was rewarded with life membership of the Bears in 1998. Frank always had a smile and a kind word, one of nature’s true gentleman and he will be missed. A service will be held at St. Michaels Parish, Lane Cove at 11am on Tuesday 21st January.
Mark Harris played for the Bears in 1980-1981 with 5 tries and 3 goals in 33 games. Having played out most of his career with the Eastern Suburbs club in the 1970s, Mark represented NSW and Australia, playing a total of 223 first grade games. A hard running centre, Mark had a stint at American Football before returning to coach the Junior Representative teams at the Bears. Mark was a regular at recent Old Bears days at North Sydney oval, and we will miss his humour and charm.
The North Sydney Bears would like to extend their condolence to friends and family of both Frank and Mark at this sad time. ... See MoreSee Less

I agree Totally they were the great All Days The 🐻 And The Great Newtown Jet,s
Two good men. Played juniors with Frank's son Stephen and at the Bears with eldest son Mark. I was at Norths when Mark Harris was there. Good bloke and helped a good mate who was also a Bear when he lost his job. Both men were great ambassadors for not only Norths but Rugby League in general.
Great Bear guys RIP Frank and Mark

Who else scrolled to the post and thought is was a PlayStation screen shot?
Ralph use of drones.
Would love to see Brian Fulmer controlling one of these over Storey Park Stadium.
This is exactly what the Roosters do....
Kate Gough glad that Paddy has seen the light and come over to the Bears. No doubt that the other Goughs and Varcoes will follow!
Although feeder side to Souths in the past was great for the resume, didn’t help any and always had sour grapes that our foundation side never returned to the big league but Souths did. Feeding to the roosters, of which they ain’t short a quid, not only has brought new and fresh ideas to take our bears to the next level but will Inject a new enthusiasm to players. 2020 is our year. GO THE BEARS!!
Over the next few weeks we will be posting a series of fun "Meet the players" videos. Let's kick things off with Ben, Corey, Jack, Jake, James, Elih, Josh and John from our NSW Canterbury Cup team chatting about what was the last selfie you took >>
